CHR presents an evening with Binyavanga Wainaina

The Center for Historical Reenactments (CHR) hosted an evening reading and conversation with Binyavanga Wainiana, author of "One Day I Will Write About This Place."

At the time of this event Wainaina worked between Nairobi and upstate New York where he directed the Chinua Achebe Center for African Artists and Writers located at Bard College. He is the winner of the 2002 Caine Prize for African Writing and a co-founder of the Kenya based literary magazine, Kwani? His writing has also appeared in the Mail & Guardian, Chimurenga Magazine, Bidoun Magazine, The New York Times, The Guardian and The National Geographic, among many.

Of One Day I Will Write About This Place Teju Cole, author of Open City writes:

"Brilliant. What makes the book good is its impassioned account of the Africa we need to hear more about: the Africa of schools, weddings, television shows, jokes, politics, family gossip, and idiosyncratic dreams. What makes it great are Wainaina's beautifully elastic sentences which fizz and crackle, pounce on their meanings, stretch and snap back into place."
